Leveling
Students who are placed at the BASIC level have demonstrated a need for instruction in the basic skills required to learn the material of the course. Further, they frequently possess less information than their peers.
Students who are placed at the STANDARD level of a course have demonstrated acceptable average ability and potential. They possess basic skills and are sufficiently versed in requisite information to be successful at an average pace of instruction.
Students who are placed at the ACCELERATED level of a course have demonstrated advance skills and possess considerably more information than average students. They have also demonstrated the ability to learn more quickly than their peers.
Students who are placed in ADVANCED PLACEMENT courses have demonstrated a superior understanding of the subject matter and have signified their desire to attempt to achieve college credit for courses taken while they are still in high school. Students who take Advanced Placement courses are required to take a nationally administered Advanced Placement test at the end of each course. Payment for the Advanced Placement exam is due in early January.
The 5 Block Schedule - 2009-2010 School Year
Each morning, the entire Academy meets at 8:00 a.m. for Chapel to set a positive tone for the day, to learn of recent student and faculty accomplishments, to hear announcements, to start the day with an inspirational message, and to experience a sense of community. Classes begin directly after Chapel at 8:15 a.m.
Five 70-minute class blocks and a lunch break fill the rest of the day until 3:10. Academy students can take up to five courses each semester. At the end of the school year, students will have taken up to 10 full courses.

*Center for Academic Improvement
The centerpiece of our new daily schedule is the development of a new schoolwide organization, staffed by content area teachers, to provide more opportunities for student-centered enrichment and remediation. This new initiative, entitled the Center for Academic Improvement, reinforces the core values of the Academy to support optimism regarding the potential of each person and high aspirations for all. As evidenced by our Strategic Plan, the Academy is committed to improving the academic performance of each and every student.
